The Kardarshians came into the celebrity spotlight after one of the family members, Kim Kardashian’s sex tape with her ex-boyfriend, Ray J was leaked in 2007. This paved the opportunity for the family to launch their reality TV series that has become a hit – Keeping up with the Kardarshians! Since then, the Kardarshian-Jenner clan has become an iconic name of celebrity and pop culture.
For the longest time ever, thanks to her business venture, guest appearances and endorsements (where she charges $750,000 to $1 million for 1 appearance), Kim Kardarshian was the most successful and richest in her family. But, recently the youngest member of the family, Kylie Jenner has become the youngest self-made billionaire at the age of 21 years old. And this is thanks to her famous cosmetic company, Kylie Cosmetics! According to Forbes, Kylie Cosmetics is worth $900 million. She even overtook Mark Zuckerberg, who hit that 10-digit figure at the age of 23.
But who is behind all of these successes? It’s none other than their supermom Kris Jenner, who is not only the best MOManager but also the best HR manager in my opinion. Below are a few lessons I have learned from her on managing a team:
Be acquainted with handling crisis
Who would have ever predicted that one could make a fortune upon your daughter’s sex tape leap? She handled every single public relation crisis well and took the disaster as an opportunity to build upon. A few years back a controversy hit Kylie Jenner because she got a lip filler at a very young age which is now used to advertise Kylie Cosmetics’ lip kit cosmetic. So when any crisis hits, instead of focussing on the problem, a HR manager or leader should focus on the possibility of finding the solution.
Knowing your team’s strengths
Let’s be really honest, none of them are great singers, dancers or actors and yet they became so successful – how? That is because Mama Kris knows how to assess the strengths of her family members and leverage that in whatever they are doing. They are well-versed in handling their image, social media accounts and maintaining a constant communication with their followers. Kylie Cosmetics signed an exclusive distribution with Ulta, the beauty retailer, where she popped by a few stores to greet customers, sign autographs and take selfies with her fan following that helped boost her company sales to $54.5 million in just six weeks! This is a solid proof that passion can beat talent and every HR manager should be aware of this.
Wearing just the HR manager hat is not enough to strive
Kris Jenner knows how to separate her two roles; mom and MOManager from each other. Being present during the birth of all her grandchildren, she ensured that she gave her daughters the moral support during the stressful time. While it is good to be a strict HR manager, you definitely would not be able to win the heart of your team members by acting as one. Sometimes, you need to learn to play the role of a friend so that your team members are aware that they have someone to talk to about their personal problems.
Teach your team to support each other
Kris always taught her children that family comes first. And, despite all the arguments they have, they always have each other’s backs. A good HR manager should teach their team on how they should be a good team player. After all, effective teamwork is the key to growth and success!
